On Wednesday, April 15, 2026 the Noon Hour Hockey League played the annual Kennedy Cup game. The cup is more affectionately called the Bubba Cup. It was made by Garry Kennedy and its base is a section of a log salvaged from the Harley House. Although noon hour hockey was started several years prior by Garry and his brother Bryan, the first Bubba cup game was played in 1984. This year marked the 42nd season of noon hour hockey.<\/p>\n

Noon hour hockey runs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays beginning after Labour Day and generally running til the end of April or until the ice is out for the season. This season there were approximately 75 noon outings. The average attendance was around 16 skaters with two goalies. Age of players range from teenage to late seventy. Occasionally there are drop ins and there would have been around 45 participants throughout the season. Occasionally youngsters drop in for some fun during school breaks. Team composition is fairly consistent with only on rare occasions requiring someone to switch teams to balance numbers. This consistency leads to a bit of rivalry but it definitely isn\u2019t heated. Thankfully there were no serious injuries other than the odd strain or bruise from a shot block or deflection.<\/p>\n

Prior to puck drop the players assembled in a circle and paid tribute to and reflected on cherished memories of \u201cDuke\u201d Garry Kennedy. Games go to 5 goals and then change goalies and ends. The goalies put in a stellar performance with both teams playing an unusually strong defensive game requiring a longer time for each game. The guys split the first two games but due to time constraints the final came down to sudden death overtime with Team Black prevailing. There were 21 participants in the 42nd anniversary edition won by the underdog Team Black ending a long run of Team White championships. Team White missing the usual strong play of Andersen, Genaille, Laforce and a few others may have been a factor contributing to the upset. The guys enjoyed the traditional varied and sumptuous potluck lunch after the game with the usual jovial banter and camaraderie. While celebrating another season of fun and fellowship they aspire to the next.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
