Board Chair: Treaty and Land Acknowledgement <\/p>\n
Thanksgiving is meant to be a time of deep gratitude for who we are and where we are. We are, indeed, in a place that has been inhabited for thousands of years, and most of us are newcomers to this land. Ancestors and newcomers agreed to live peacefully on this land in an agreement with the name Treaty 4. The name might not say much to inspire but the words of that Treaty tell of rights and responsibilities for all who are a part of it. All of us are Treaty people! <\/p>\n
This evening as SVSD School Board, we gather on land that is the Traditional Territory of The Cree, The Saulteaux, The Dakota Nations, and the Homeland of the Metis people. May we remember, with respect, the story of this land, and may our relationship with the land and the people form a reconciling path into the future.<\/p>\n
