{"id":38270,"date":"2023-04-23T19:48:07","date_gmt":"2023-04-24T00:48:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/swanriver.valleybiz.ca\/news\/?p=38270"},"modified":"2023-04-23T19:48:07","modified_gmt":"2023-04-24T00:48:07","slug":"swan-river-receives-50000-for-crime-prevention-efforts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/swanriver.valleybiz.ca\/news\/2023\/04\/23\/swan-river-receives-50000-for-crime-prevention-efforts\/","title":{"rendered":"Swan River Receives $50,000 for Crime Prevention Efforts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/swanriver.valleybiz.ca\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Manitoba-New.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"226\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-21461\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swanriver.valleybiz.ca\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Manitoba-New.gif 300w, https:\/\/swanriver.valleybiz.ca\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Manitoba-New-147x110.gif 147w, https:\/\/swanriver.valleybiz.ca\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Manitoba-New-228x171.gif 228w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Government of Manitoba Media Release |<\/p>\n<p>Funding Through the Criminal Property Forfeiture Program will Provide Surveillance Cameras to Promote Safety, Help Law Enforcement: Goertzen<\/p>\n<p>The Manitoba government is investing $50,000 derived from the proceeds of crime to support community safety and crime prevention programs in Swan River, Justice Minister Kelvin Goertzen announced April 21, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRCMP have indicated that surveillance cameras would be beneficial in improving safety in Swan River,\u201d said Goertzen. \u201cOur government is pleased to provide this funding to Swan River toward the purchase of surveillance camera equipment, helping to strengthen the community\u2019s crime prevention efforts, including the work of its Citizens on Patrol Program.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new surveillance equipment will assist RCMP to identify suspects, act as a deterrent, and preserve evidence to assist prosecutions, the minister noted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe thank the Manitoba government for this funding,\u201d said Mayor Lance Jacobson, Town of Swan River. \u201cOur community will use the resources to procure equipment and set up a camera surveillance system in an effort to deter crime, provide further evidence to our local law enforcement teams, and protect our citizens and their properties.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Swan River RCMP are truly grateful for the Manitoba government&#8217;s decision to support this crime prevention initiative,\u201d said Staff Sgt. Joe Duncan, Swan River RCMP. \u201cHaving access to a community surveillance program will provide the Town of Swan River with a tool to help increase crime prevention.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since its inception in 2009, the Criminal Property Forfeiture Fund has distributed more than $24.5 million back to communities throughout the province. The program seizes and liquidates criminal assets, and redirects funding to projects and initiatives designed to protect Manitobans and enhance public safety.
