Peer based organizations are groups of people who use substances and are impacted by the social determinants of health who are working to create change in their communities.<\/p>\n<p>Chelsea Cook of the Swan River HARM reduction network explained that her group assists people in the community who are actively using substances to minimize risk of health and safety.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The group recently met with SVSD to start the process of educating students of all ages.\u00a0 They are participating in a Town clean-up event next Wednesday and National Testing Day is coming up on June 27th.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>4.2 Delegation: North-West Regional Library re: budget<br \/>\nKathy Sterma, Judy Schneider, Sandra Yaknovich and Gloria Stesenko of the North-West Regional Library provided statistics about the usage of the Swan River and Benito Libraries and discussed Council&#8217;s proposed funding amount.\u00a0 They advised that the proposed amount will create a deficit and will affect the Swan River Library mostly. They asked that Council reconsider and increase the amount of funding for 2018.<\/p>\n<p>4.3 Delegation: Lawrence Hart re: Council report card<br \/>\nLawrence Hart presented his opinions about Council indemnities, staff wages, staff experience, reserve funds, taxation, water rate studies and water rates to Council.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>5 Correspondence<\/p>\n<p>6 New Business<\/p>\n<p>6.1 wishes to increase awareness among Canadians of the significant benefits of physical activity and to encourage Canadians to increase their level of physical activity and their participation in recreational sports and fitness activities;<br \/>\nit is in Canada\u2019s interest to improve the health of all Canadians and to reduce the burden of illness on Canadian families and on the Canadian health care system;<br \/>\nmany local governments in Canada have public facilities to promote the health and fitness of their citizens;<br \/>\nthe Government of Canada wishes to encourage local governments to facilitate Canadian\u2019s participation in healthy physical activities;<br \/>\nthe Government of Canada wishes to encourage the country\u2019s local governments, non-government organizations, the private sector and all Canadians to recognize the first Saturday in June as National Health and Fitness Day and to mark the day with local events and initiatives celebrating and promoting the importance and use of local health, recreational, sports and fitness facilities;<br \/>\nCanada\u2019s mountains, oceans, lakes, forest, parks and wilderness also offer recreational and fitness opportunities;<br \/>\nCanadian Environment Week is observed throughout the country in early June, and walking and cycling are great ways to reduce vehicle pollution and improve physical fitness;<br \/>\ndeclaring the first Saturday in June to be National Health and Fitness Day will further encourage Canadians to participate in physical activities and contribute to their own health and well-being;<br \/>\nTHEREFORE the Town of Swan River\u00a0proclaims National Health &#038; Fitness Day in the Town of Swan River\u00a0as the first Saturday in June.<br \/>\nCARRIED<\/p>\n<p>6.1.1
