Ten non-profit sport and recreation organizations, sport associations and community facilities in the northern and Interlake regions of the province will benefit from funding aimed at creating positive recreational opportunities for area residents, especially young people, Children and Youth Opportunities Minister Melanie Wight announced January 18, 2016.<\/p>\n
\u201cProviding quality programs and facilities makes it easier for Manitobans to participate in fitness and sport as part of healthy lifestyles,\u201d Minister Wight said. \u201cResidents of all ages will benefit from the enhanced facilities, programs and community pride made possible by this funding.\u201d<\/p>\n
The programs included in the funding announcement will help children and youth in Manitoba\u2019s northern, Parkland and Interlake regions through improved sport, recreation, youth mentoring and community drop-in facilities.<\/p>\n

\n\u2022 Shamattawa Together Achieving Reaching Stars \u2013 to purchase new equipment to enhance its community youth mentoring program;
\n\u2022 The Pas Box Lacrosse \u2013 to purchase new regulation equipment to allow players of various age groups to participate in lacrosse;
\n\u2022 Northlands Dene First Nation \u2013 to purchase a variety of outdoor sports equipment;
\n\u2022 Manitoba Paddling Association \u2013 to purchase a second dragon boat to enable paddlers in St. Theresa Point and Island Lake to participate in the organization\u2019s school dragon boat challenge;
\n\u2022 Duck Bay Community Council \u2013 to complete flooring repairs at its community and youth drop-in centre;<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Dauphin Recreational Services \u2013 to purchase fitness equipment to be used by the after school program, Kids Kamp and general community;
\n\u2022 Lakeshore Recreation Commission \u2013 to purchase soccer and golf equipment so the community can expand its community sports equipment loan program;
\n\u2022 St. Laurent and District Recreation Commission \u2013 to purchase tap shoes to accommodate youth in the St. Laurent Youth Steppers program;
\n\u2022 Chief Peguis Canoe Club \u2013 to purchase a flat-deck trailer to transport equipment; and
\n\u2022 Peguis Minor Hockey Association \u2013 to buy new equipment and training tools to enhance the community\u2019s minor hockey development program.<\/p>\n
