Prairie Mountain Health (PMH) is launching its flu shot campaign after the Thanksgiving long weekend and it will run over the course of the next six weeks.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cGet vaccinated, don\u2019t spread the flu campaign\u201d kicks off in the health region this year on Tuesday, October 14th in the communities of Binscarth, Cypress River, Miniota and Swan River. Brandon will hold its first flu shot clinic Saturday, October 18th within the Nurses Residence Gym, at the Brandon Regional Health Centre.<\/p>\n<p>Click <a href=\"https:\/\/swanriver.valleybiz.ca\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/MASTER-Parkland.pdf\">here<\/a>, visit the PMH website or call established phone numbers and toll-free lines for the complete flu shot clinic schedule in their area.  The website (prairiemountainhealth.ca)  also has a \u2018frequently asked questions\u2019 section that provides answers to some of the more common queries the region receives about the flu and flu vaccine.<\/p>\n<p>Once again this year, the seasonal flu shot will be available to all Manitobans at no charge. It will offer protection against three seasonal flu strains. However, immunization is especially important for those at increased risk of serious illness from the flu, their caregivers and close contacts. This includes:<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Seniors 65 years of age and over;<br \/>\n\u00b7 Children six months to five years of age;<br \/>\n\u00b7 Those with chronic illness;<br \/>\n\u00b7 Pregnant women;<br \/>\n\u00b7 Health care workers and first responders;<br \/>\n\u00b7 Individuals of Aboriginal ancestry;<br \/>\n\u00b7 People who are severely overweight or obese;<br \/>\n\u00b7 Residents of personal care homes and long-term care facilities;<br \/>\n\u00b7 Or as determined by your health care provider.<\/p>\n<p>Prairie Mountain Health reminds you that if you are 65 years of age or older, or have a chronic illness, you should also get a pneumonia shot.  One \u2018pneumo\u2019 shot may give you a lifetime of protection.<\/p>\n<p>Remember to bring your Manitoba Health card and your Immunization Card(s) to the clinics. You are also advised to wear short sleeves if possible.
