589 hardy contestants bought tickets and braved the cold -20C plus wind chill weather for a chance to win the first place prize of $10,000 at the 16th annual Billy Beal Ice Fishing Derby.

\nThe event, which took place on Saturday, March 16th at Whitefish Lake is an annual fundraiser put on by the three local Swan Valley Lion Clubs (Bowsman, Minitonas, and Swan River) for the Swan Valley Lions Medical Assistance Fund.
\n<\/br>
\nSince it’s start, the Swan Valley Medical Assistance Fund has given $135 903.66 to 152 local residents. Administration costs to date are $78.41. <\/p>\n

\n<\/br>A total of 16 fish were caught and the grand prize winner of the $10 000 was Linda Lafreniere from Camperville, MB with a pike weighing in at 5.06 pounds.
\n<\/br><\/br>
