Stakeholders from the Swan Valley recently met to discuss local
\nefforts to improve access to medical services within the Valley.<\/p>\n
The initial meeting took place on March 15, 2012 with representatives
\nfrom the Swan Valley Health Facilities Foundation, Swan Valley (G7)
\nMedical Services Committee, Parkland Regional Health Authority and
\nSwan Valley RISE. Each group brings unique strengths to the table and
\nrepresents a key component to the success of revitalizing health care
\nwithin the Valley. By establishing the framework for a coordinated
\napproach, efforts to engage our regional partners and accommodate
\nother local stakeholders will be more effective.<\/p>\n
The Swan Valley (G7) Medical Services Committee will continue to
\noversee doctor retention and recruiting efforts. Through meetings with
\ndoctors, medical graduates and other industry experts, the committee
\nhas determined that the following components are essential to
\nestablishing a competitive and successful recruitment plan.<\/p>\n
– Cash recruitment incentive
\n– Free temporary accommodation
\n– Opportunity to work in a medical clinic<\/p>\n
Steps are currently being taken to secure funding for the cash
\nrecruitment incentive and arrangements for temporary accommodations
\nare being finalized.<\/p>\n
Work-life balance is becoming increasingly important to young medical
\nprofessionals and a medical clinic allows doctors to focus on medicine
\nwithout devoting additional time to managing operational details. A
\nmedical clinic also provides the collaborative environment that many
\ndoctors seek.<\/p>\n
Swan Valley RISE will facilitate the development of a medical clinic
\nsolution and will explore the physical and organizational options for
\nthe clinic. As part of the overall solution RISE will also consider
\nthe $2,000,000 in provincial funding to build a community health
\ncentre as well as the provision for a nurse practitioner as was
\npromised for Swan River by the NDP government during the last election
\ncampaign.<\/p>\n
As plans progress, additional stakeholders, service clubs, business
\nowners and individuals will be included in discussions to ensure a
\ncomprehensive solution is developed to meet the health care needs in
