ACL Celebrates 50th Anniversary at Calico Corners

ValleyBiz Story | The Association for Community Swan River Branch (ACL) celebrated their 50th Anniversary during this year’s annual Calico Corners Craft Sale & Bazaar.

Founded by 6 families in 1961 their mission statement is:

Association for Community Living (Swan River Branch) supports people living with an intellectual disability in their own homes within our community in order that we may all live a valued and dignified life based on personal strengths, needs and choices.

First held in 1980, the Calico Corners fundraiser has been held annually for 32 years. This year’s event was held on November 4, 2011 at the Veteran’s Community Hall. The hall was filled with tables diplaying interesting items for sale by vendors from within the Valley as well as other vendors who travelled to Swan River to attend the event.

A steady flow of customers attended Calico Corners this year, looking to pick up some unique items and get a head start on their Christmas shopping.

Skillfully stitched, knit
and sewn fashions, accessories and other items were available in a variety of materials and colors.

Wall hangings, furniture and and other decorative pieces were available for festive or everyday display.

Locally produced items such as handmade soaps, honey and beeswax candles along with personalized children’s books and other specialty items provided unique gift opportunities.

The tasty treats were the hardest deal to pass up as their sweet aroma tempted the tastebuds of all who passed by.
