Swan Valley
School Division
Media Release
October 20, 2026
We are writing to provide an update regarding the reported threat circulated through text messages and social media yesterday involving Swan Valley Regional Secondary School (SVRSS).
The RCMP has now concluded its investigation and has determined that the reported threat was fabricated. Through their investigation, officers found no credible evidence to support the claims that were being shared online, and there is no ongoing threat to the safety of students, staff, or the school community.
We would like to thank the RCMP for their prompt response, thorough investigation, and ongoing partnership in helping ensure the safety of our schools.
We also want to recognize our students, families, staff, and community members for doing exactly what we ask them to do when they become aware of potential threats or concerning information. Through our commitment to Fair Notice students are regularly reminded that any threat, rumor of a threat, or threatening behavior must be reported immediately. We are proud of the responsible actions taken by our students and community members, who promptly alerted school and division officials. Their willingness to report concerns allowed the matter to be investigated quickly and thoroughly.
While the information was ultimately determined to be false, reporting concerns is always the right action. We would much rather investigate a report that proves unfounded than fail to receive information that could impact the safety and well-being of our school community.
Classes and school operations will continue as normal.
Thank you for your cooperation, vigilance, and continued support.
