SVSD Responds to Threat Involving SVRSS

Swan Valley
School Division
Media Release
October 19, 2026 |

Today at approximately 4:00 p.m., reports began circulating through text messages and social media indicating that an individual had made threats involving Swan Valley Regional Secondary School and tomorrow’s school day.

We want to thank our students, families, and community members for immediately bringing these concerns to the attention of SVRSS administration and Division Office staff. Their actions reflect the importance of our ongoing work around Fair Notice and Administrative Procedure 212: Violent Threat Risk Assessment. Students are regularly taught that if they become aware of a threat or concerning behaviors, they must report it immediately to a trusted adult or school official. We are proud that our students followed this protocol. The significant number of reports received demonstrates that students took the information seriously and acted responsibly to help keep our school community safe.

The RCMP has initiated an investigation and has taken steps this evening to significantly reduce any potential risk to students and staff. As an additional precaution, RCMP officers will be present at SVRSS tomorrow to provide reassurance and support. Their presence should not be interpreted as an indication that there is an imminent threat to student or staff safety.

At this time, the Division is not aware of any posts or messages that have been confirmed as having been made directly by a potential threat-maker. The investigation remains ongoing. If you have any information that may assist the RCMP or the Division in their investigation, please contact me directly at rtomlinson@svsd.ca or reach out to the SVRSS principal or vice-principals or contact the RCMP directly at 204-734-4686 or dispatch at 204-734-3454.

Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us maintain a safe and caring learning environment for all students and staff.
