Prostate Cancer Awareness Month
September 2019
WHEREAS, prostate cancer is the most common cancer among Canadian men; and
WHEREAS, 1 in 7 Canadian men will be diagnosed with the disease; and
WHEREAS, an estimated average of 11 Canadian men die from prostate cancer every day; and
WHEREAS, the survival rate for prostate cancer is nearly 100 per cent when detected early, but 3 of 4 men will die when found late; and
WHEREAS, black men and those with a family history of the disease are at a greater risk; and
WHEREAS, since Prostate Cancer Canada was formed in 1994, the death rate has been cut in half; and
WHEREAS, awareness and conversations about prostate cancer can lead to screening and early detection that saves lives, and
WHEREAS, the Town of Swan River supports Prostate Cancer Canada, and everyone committed to raising awareness about prostate cancer;
THEREFORE, on behalf of the Swan River Town Council, we do hereby proclaim September 2019 as Prostate Cancer Awareness Month in the Town of Swan River.

WHEREAS Section 365(2) of The Municipal Act provides that Council may in any year designate the immediately preceding year, or any earlier year, as the year for which properties, the taxes in respect of which are in arrears for the year, must be offered for sale by auction to recover the tax arrears and costs;
AND WHEREAS Section 372 of The Municipal Act provides that a municipality may set any terms or conditions for the sale of a property to be sold for taxes, and may set a reserve bid in the amount of the tax arrears and costs in respect of the property;
BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Town of Swan River place a reserve bid on each property included in the 2019 Tax Sale up to the amount of tax arrears and costs owing.
