On September 29, 2017, Rick Wowchuk, MLA for Swan River announced funding for renovations to Swan River Friendship Centre Housing in the Town of Swan River. MLA Wowchuk was joined by board members from the Swan River Friendship Centre (SRFC) Housing Corporation to deliver the announcement.
SRFC Housing is receiving $336,000.00 in funding through Canada-Manitoba Investment in Affordable Housing (IAH). This funding will allow for renovations to Electrical, Wrap, Furnace, Roof, Windows, Parging, Plumbing, Exterior Door and Flooring.
“Our Progressive Conservative Government is proud to make these important investments in affordable and social housing for Manitobans,” said MLA Wowchuk, “This funding will make a real difference in the lives of the people who call the SRFC Housing homes.”
“A project such as this one allows us to upgrade our housing units, lower our annual operational costs, and provides a financial impact for our local businesses, said SRFC Housing board member Peter Flemming, “It also gives the families that live in these homes the understanding that we, along with their Provincial Government are committed to affordable housing in Swan River.”
Manitoba Housing issued a competitive request for proposals last November to identify appropriate and cost-effective projects at social or affordable housing properties. Sixty-three projects, including SRFC Housing were selected for funding.
