The closure of the Swan Valley Credit Union Aquatic Centre has been extended until October 23, 2015. The pool closed on September 8, 2015 for scheduled annual maintenance. The closure was planned to last 2 weeks with the facility expected to re-open September 21, 2015.
Town of Swan River Mayor, Glen McKenzie has issued the following statement regarding the extended closure:
Thank you to everyone for their patience during the shutdown at the Swan Valley Credit Union Aquatic Centre in the Richardson Recreation & Wellness Centre this past month. Our staff has been hard at work doing routine maintenance and giving the facility a thorough cleaning.
We also had some warranty work that needed to be done and we had been assured that it would happen during the original planned 2 week shutdown. While some of the warranty work was done during this time, the work in the pool was not able to be completed. It was discovered that there was more work to be done than originally anticipated. We need to do some recaulking which then requires time to cure and it takes us a few days to get the pool refilled, warmed and have all the chemicals balanced before we can open to the public.
The facility is a great new asset to our community and we want it to be used for years to come. In order to ensure the facility operates at its full potential, we need to do the necessary maintenance work to keep it in good working condition. This will require the shutdown to be extended. We are currently anticipating a re-opening date of October 23. We will keep you posted in the coming days when we have a better idea of the exact date.
We understand that many of you have missed your early morning swims, your aqua fit classes, your soak in the swirl pool and have even had to cancel birthday parties. The staff have missed seeing all of you too. We are working as hard as we can to get the work done and re-open. If you have registered for any programs this fall or booked any rentals, you will be receiving a phone call from one of our staff to make other arrangements.
Once again, thank you for your patience. And we look forward to seeing you soon. If you have any questions, please contact Patti Henkelman, Interim Aquatic Services Manager at 204-734-4119.
