On February 13, 2013 just after 11:00 pm the Swan River RCMP, the Swan River Fire Dept, and soon the Minitonas Fire Dept were dispatched to a fire inside of Chen’s Restaurant in Swan River, Manitoba.


A passerby had heard what sounded like a fire alarm, approached the building and saw the fire, and then immediately called 911. Subsequently, a neighbouring apartment block was evacuated.

Flames were seen climbing up the wall from an electrical wall heating unit. In combating the fire, portions of the wall were removed in order to save the building. Smoke and water damage is extensive.

Fire currently appears as non-suspicious / ‘accidental’.

The police investigation, in consultation with the Office of the Fire Commissioner, continues.
