Seasonal Crop Summary

Northwest Region
Milder temperatures this week along with windy conditions in the Northwest region. Soil crusting continues as soils continue to dry. Field repair and infrastructure repair continue in the region. Field access remains a challenge in some areas where washouts occurred, however many roads are becoming passable again.
Fall rye and winter wheat are mostly mature and harvest has started in parts of the region. Pre-harvest applications have started in winter cereals.
Spring cereals range from milk to soft dough stage. There are some later seeded fields that continue to catch up.
Field peas range from the R5 to R6 stage and are moving towards maturity.
Canola fields continue to range in stages, with most crops in the podding stage. A few later seeded fields and fields under excess moisture continue to catch up. Fields that experienced excess moisture have patches of delayed growth.
The most advanced soybean crops have moved into R4 stage, with the remainder of the crop following behind.
Weather Report
Scattered rain events brought rain throughout the province. The Southwest, Northwest, Central and the Interlake regions received less
than 10 mm of precipitation with many areas receiving less than 5 mm. The largest accumulations occurred in the East region with Prawda having
the highest accumulation at 38.3 mm.
Climate normals for total accumulated precipitation from May 1 to August 9 range from 191 mm to 289 mm and are based on 30-year historical data.
Since May 1, areas of the Northwest and Interlake regions have accumulated 300 mm of precipitation. Seasonal accumulations are above normal for the entire Northwest and large areas of the Southwest and Interlake. Areas of the Central and Southwest region have near-normal accumulation. A few localized areas of the Southwest, Central, and Eastern regions have seen accumulations below 80% of the 30-year average.
Total Accumulation of Growing Degree Days shows the accumulated growing degree days (GDD) for the period of May 1 – August 9, 2026. GDD accumulations ranged between 968 and 1339 GDD so far this growing season. Most of southern Manitoba has accumulated more than 1500 GDD.
