This past Wednesday Evening, May 13, 2026, in the new Cultural Arts Centre situated in the SVRSS, an audience of close to 150 people enjoyed a ‘Musical Joy of Spring” performance by the Swan Valley Community Band for their 32nd Spring Concert. Joining them for an interlude of superb musicianship was the Swan Valley Schools Tour Band of a dozen Band Students.

Our Community Band group is directed by Julie Kooistra, Community Band founder, and Nic Stroud, Music Director at Ecole Swan River South School (ESRSS). They each conducted the Band in challenging musical selections that was enjoyed by all. The new venue is an excellent theatre in which to perform. At the conclusion of the Concert, the Community Band were rewarded with a Standing Ovation.

Mark Matjeka, SVRSS Music Director, & Nic Stroud lead their young music students in delightful selections showcasing a Percussionist, Trumpeter, and two Tenor Saxophonists. Their talent was astounding! Their performance contributed to the audience response at the end of the event.

Having started our Band in 1994, each year varies in membership. But, luckily our numbers are on the incline.

We are always hopeful people decide to act on their music ambitions and join us.
