Town of Swan River Notice |

On January 19, 2026, the Town of Swan River Council met with officials from Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure (MTI), including members of the roundabout project team, to receive an update following the recent public consultation regarding the proposed intersection changes.

In 2022, after MTI advised Council that they would not proceed with an option involving turning lights unless concrete medians were also included, Council agreed with MTI’s commitment to conduct a public consultation to better understand residents’ preferences. That public consultation took place on December 16, 2025, and MTI committed to sharing the results with Mayor and Council during today’s meeting.During the discussion, Council reported that the majority of public input they received did not support the roundabout option. Council further advised MTI that, based on this community feedback, they also do not support moving forward with the roundabout concept.

MTI provided a commitment to explore alternative solutions, including the possibility of implementing a timing sequence that would allow left turns from the intersection while holding back oncoming traffic—without requiring the construction of a median. “It was greatly appreciated to hear that our provincial representatives are listening to our community and adjusting their plans accordingly,” said Mayor Lance Jacobson.

The Town of Swan River will continue to work collaboratively with MTI and provide updates to residents as new information becomes available.
