Many Programs Discussed at Services to Seniors AGM

Swan River & District Community Resource Council Inc. held their Annual General Meeting on October 15, 2024

President’s Opening Remarks:
In Accordance with our purpose to provide services that promotes the highest quality of life for seniors so that they may remain safely in their home, our Resource Council Board continues to look into new opportunities for the seniors in our community.

The meal program is provided at Heritage and Westside five days per week. It continues to be a problem finding cooks for the program.  All staff are currently part time-permanent or job sharing.

Lifeline has made improvements in their equipment which helps keeping seniors safe and giving families peace of mind.  Thank you, Kyla, for keeping up with the new technology.

Thank you to Connie and Kyla for keeping the office running smoothly and keeping the Board up to date on information and activities.  You are always looking for new ideas to enrich the lives of seniors in the Swan River Valley. Thank you to our volunteers, especially our drivers, for their time helping the seniors in our communities.  Also thank you to the businesses for your generous donations so we are able to continue our programs. It is greatly appreciated.  Last but not least, thank you to all the Board members for your time, ideas and perspectives for making a difference in the lives of the seniors in our communities.

Our Volunteer Programs consisted of the local and long-distance transportation program, where a potential client calls the office to discuss a transportation need, we then find the appropriate volunteer on a case by case basis, call the client and the volunteer to make the connection between the two and the trip is planned and attended with the volunteer being the escort when needed. We are in need of volunteers for this program, as quite a few of our volunteers are part time workers and are not always available to transport clients on the days that are needed.

Coffee and A Chat sessions, where we sit around a large kitchen type table and discuss pre planned topics with a relevant professional. This went over so well, we have expanded this for each month of the year with the exception of December, as it is already a busy month. This program operates mostly on grants from other agencies and is offered the last week of each month at Birch River, Benito and Swan River.

To provide services which promote the highest quality of life for seniors that they may remain safely in their own homes for as long as possible.

Fee for Service Providers: Individuals provide service in the areas of house cleaning, yard work, snow removal and many other odd jobs. We have had a couple people walk in off the street to offer their services, and for this we are grateful.

The Services to Seniors office has been working on keeping up with technology with a fledgling facebook page. We generally use free advertising from Valley Biz for most of our technology needs. We thank the people who contribute funds or volunteering their time and resources and value the clients we serve. May you have a wonderful fall.
