On May 11, 2024, at approximately 4:10 am, Swan River RCMP received a report of a male walking around the community threatening people with an edged weapon, in Sapotaweyak Cree Nation.
While officers were en route, they received an update advising the suspect had taken a family member’s vehicle and may have struck someone on an ATV. Officers arrived and immediately began making patrols for the suspect. Officers located the suspect and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, however he refused to stop and fled. He continued to drive dangerously and at high speeds around the community. As RCMP were patrolling for the suspect, they were advised by a community member the suspect had crashed the vehicle and was now on foot.
With the help of several community members, the suspect was located and arrested after a brief foot pursuit. He was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
Errol Leask, 26, has been charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Flight from Peace Officer, Resisting Arrest and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose. He was remanded into custody
Two knives were seized from the vehicle.
Officers followed up on the possible ATV collision and determined a collision did not occur.
The investigation is ongoing.
