Rob Tomlinson Hired as SVSD Superintendent/CEO

SVSD Announcement |

After extensive consultation, our search for a new Superintendent/CEO has led the Swan Valley School Board of Trustees to Rob Tomlinson.

We are pleased to announce that Rob will be assuming his new role July 1, 2024.

We are excited to have him on board and look forward to his leadership as we continue to move ahead with the work of offering the best education possible for each of our students.

Here is a photo of Rob and a brief bio for him to introduce himself to the School Division and Community.

Rob Tomlinson is excited to join Swan Valley School Division’s culture of innovation, inclusion, and fortitude.

As the new Superintendent, Mr. Tomlinson will contribute to our continued commitment to not be satisfied with just managing the status quo, but continuing to innovate to be a place where staff want to work, and students benefit from its programming. Social emotional learning, literacy, numeracy, Indigenization, and vocational programming are all areas that Rob would be looking to foster continued innovation in. As well as continuing a culture of professional learning that not only supports student growth but creates a culture of staff empowerment.

The passion and commitment towards inclusion is a shared priority between the Division and Mr. Tomlinson. This non-negotiable priority will be supported by Mr. Tomlinson’s background in the standards of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Mr. Tomlinson believes that Truth and Reconciliation needs to be more than a document, it needs to be a way of being. The new superintendent’s knowledge of equity practices and inclusive discipline practices will help support the Division’s journey towards meeting The Calls to Action. The incoming superintendent has extensive experience in the implementation of restorative justice practices.

Mr. Tomlinson is excited to join a Division that has demonstrated a culture of fortitude despite many challenges ranging from funding to staffing to amalgamation. The incoming superintendent brings a strong student-focused work ethic, with a character that is strategically stubborn. If there is something good for our students, he will be committed to making it happen. During his 26 year tenure as a school leader, he has successfully advocated for the creation of Dakota Language courses to support Indigenous students and created an Early Childhood Education, with post-secondary articulation, to support the need for daycares in the Westman area.

Mr. Tomlinson is excited to bring his skill sets and experience to the innovation, inclusion, and fortitude that Swan Valley School Division has become synonymous with within the Province of Manitoba.
