Empty Purple Chairs Placed For Loved Ones Lost to Drugs

Submitted by: Mo Koetting

August 31st marks the International Day of Overdose Awareness and this year advocates are asking people to draw attention to those lost to the toxic drug supply through the use of empty purple chairs. It is a day to draw attention to those lost to overdoses and tainted drugs.

Purple has long been used as the colour to represent lives lost to the growing global crisis. Now, the empty chairs will stand in those peoples’ places.

In Swan River there is an empty purple chair on 9th Ave and another on Duncan Cres. There may be others in town as well so keep your eyes open.
