There was music in the air on June 7, 2023 as the SVRSS Concert Band and Grade 9 Band presented their summer band concert.

The program began with the Grade 9 Band. “They have done a lot of work this year.” said Music Director, Glenda Turton. “Our fall concert, they were still working on Hot Cross Buns and Jingle Bells and I am quite certain you will notice a huge span of growth between where they started and where they are now.”

The SVRSS Concert Band then joined the Grade 9 band for a number of musical selections. Turton explained that the combined band shows the Grade 9 students what is possible as an older student and challenges them to work toward the next step. It also provides the older students to work with the students who will be part of their band the following year.

The SVRSS Senior Band, comprised of of Grade 10, 11 and 12 students presented a few numbers before being joined by the Swan Valley Community Band. The additional instrumentation allowed the band to play a larger variety of musical selections.

Closing off the programs were a couple selections from an informal, student led ensemble.
