On February 22, 2022, at approximately 12:05 am, Swan River RCMP received a report of a stabbing at a residence located in Sapotaweyak Cree Nation.

Officers arrived in the area and were advised of four male victims, three having been stabbed and one assaulted – aged 54, 30, 18, and 17 all from Sapotaweyak Cree Nation. The 30-year-old was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries and later transferred to Winnipeg. The 18-year-old and 17-year-old were treated and released from hospital whereas the 54-year-old, who had been assaulted, was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that the 30-year-old was in a residence when a number of suspects entered the home and attacked him. As the suspects exited the residence, they attacked the 54-year-old who was outside his residence located next door. The 18-year-old and 17-year-old were located a short distance away when officers were advised of another fight in progress.

It is believed the break and enter to this specific address was targeted.

Terrance Kematch, 18, from Sapotaweyak Cree Nation, was arrested nearby and remanded into custody on charges including Breaking and Entering, Assault with a Weapon, Mischief Under $5000 and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose. A 17-year-old female, from Norway House, was also arrested and later released for a future court appearance in Swan River.
