Minitonas 4-H Beef Club held it’s 64th achievement at the Swan Valley Ag Society grounds on Saturday June 15, 2019. Despite being a little cool it was a great day for all the members, leaders and families.

The members enjoyed their words of encouragement and learned from their vast knowledge of the show ring and beef industry.

Immediately following the show 23 steers were auctioned by Randy Hart, a past Minitonas 4-H Beef Club member and huge supporter of the 4-H program. The steers averaged 1319 lbs with one steer topping the scale at 1655 lbs. They sold for an average of $2.20/lb with tremendous support from the community. The day wrapped up with a complimentary BBQ for all sponsors and buyers.

The animals will be processed at Valley Meat Packers and Benito Meats. Argenis Rodas with the Meat Science Department at the University of Manitoba will grade them on June 28th where the Champion and Reserve Champion Carcass will be selected based on the Canadian Beef Grading Agency standards. The competition is open to the public and will take place at 4:30 pm at Valley Meat Packers, MInitonas MB. Awards for the judging class and record books will be announced at that time as well.

This wraps up the 4-H year; however you can visit with many of the members during the Northwest Roundup & Exhibition as the club assists with the Down on the Farm display during the fair. The members would like to thank the community for supporting their achievement, show and sale, all the many buyers and sponsors, the leaders of the club and most especially their parents.
