Northwest Region
Good harvest progress over the last week. Daytime temperatures warm, however overnight temperatures dipped down to single digits over the weekend. Some frost reports in Grandview and San Clara on August 26th morning. Extent of damage unknown, but producers encouraged to test feed for nitrates. Some rainfall occurred in most of the region with amounts varying.

Pre-harvest treatment on spring wheat continued in many parts of the region. Spring wheat harvest 30% complete and ongoing as conditions and appropriate staging is reached.

Pea harvest 98% complete, yields of 50 to 70 bu/ac. The lentil crop mostly harvested.

Desiccation and swathing of canola continues as the crop reaches the appropriate stage.

Soybeans are mostly at the R5 to R7 stages and advancing nicely; flax is approximately 70% ripe.

Cereal silage harvest continues with average to above average yields in most of the Northwest.

Hail damaged crops and cereal straw being baled for livestock feed and bedding. Perennial forage and pasture production continue to decline with successive days of wind and heat. Supplementary feeding has begun in the areas of Rorketon and Eddystone where they are very dry.

Dugouts around Ste. Rose and Dauphin 40 to 50% full overall, but are low in many areas and should be regularly checked for adequacy and quality. Pasture conditions rated fair to good for the Roblin and Swan River areas and dugout levels 75 to 90% full.
