Swan River Senior Centre

First 2 sessions free for beginners.

Do you like laughing? Do you appreciate keeping fit? Do you like feeling energized? Do you enjoy socializing? Do you like meeting new friends? Do you need to relieve stress? If you can answer “yes” to any or all of these questions, then the Swan Valley Hoedowners have exciting news for you. We are offering you a chance to have a real blast and learn to square dance at the same time!

We are offering beginner sessions starting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 3 at the Swan River Senior Centre. We’d love for you to come. The first two sessions for beginners are offered at no charge. All ages welcome, no partner needed, no experience necessary, comfortable, casual dress and footwear are suggested.

Here is some exciting information about today’s modern square dancing:
1. Modern square dancing has evolved from traditional dancing into a multilevel program suitable for all ages.
2. All types of music are used: rock, pop, blue grass, classical, country, latin, and more. Any upbeat music with a strong beat works for square dancing.
3. It’s as easy as walking. There is no fancy footwork or lead/follow partnering. If you can walk and listen at the same time, you can square dance.
4. It beats the gym: same benefits as low impact aerobics. You can clock 7000 steps in one evening of square dancing. It is so much fun interacting with others you don’t even realize you’re exercising.
