Special Olympics Parkland 5 Pin Bowling Tournament

On Saturday, April 8th Special Olympics Manitoba Parkland Region held its annual Regional 5 Pin Tournament. 39 bowlers from Swan Valley, Russell and Winnipegosis took part in the 2 shift event at Up Your Alley in Swan River.

This tournament was a 5 Pin Bowling qualifier for the Special Olympics Manitoba 2017 Provincial Summer Games to be held in Brandon June 16-18, 2017. These Provincial Summer Games will also be used to select Team Manitoba to compete at the 2018 5 & 10 Pin Bowling National Championships in PEI & Ontario as part of the 2018 Canada Summer Games.

Taking 1st place in the AM shift consisting of Swan Valley bowlers was Lukas Henson, +175 pins above average with the Tigers. 2nd- Jeremy Stephen +97 pins above average with the Cobras and 3rd – Meaghan Ames + 78 pins above average also with the Cobras.

In the afternoon 14 out of town bowlers joined us; 8 from Russell, 6 from Winnipegosis and 5 bowlers from the Swan Valley.


The winning bowlers from the PM shift were 1st – Cheyenne Brandon +123 pins above average from Russell. 2nd- Kelsey Catcheway + 94 pins above average from Winnipegosis and 3rd- Loanda Shingoose + 91 pins above average from Russell.

It was an awesome day of bowling for the Parkland Bowlers. After bowling wrapped up the Parkland athletes joined together at the Elk’s Hall for a delicious potluck supper, dancing, friendship and fun!
