Since Prairie Mountain Health announced the implementation of a low-risk obstetrics program at the Swan Valley Health Centre in December 2016, physicians have been discussing birth plans with their patients. Planned deliveries are expected to begin taking place in the next few months.

The equipment donated by the Lions clubs includes:

Panda Warmer $39,552.67

The baby warmer will be used by almost every new baby born in the Swan Valley Health Centre and is designed to keep newborns warm while initial checks and procedures are performed. The unit also has an integrated scale, suction, oxygen, x-ray and resuscitation.

Neonatal Transport Incubator $29,913.29

The incubator will allow the safe transport of a sick baby in an ambulance with a special stretcher designed to fit securely in the ambulance.

The specialized equipment was required to support the low-risk obstetrics program. “Some Swan River Valley groups, organizations and individuals have graciously donated for equipment which includes: a transport incubator, infant warmer, bassinet, phototherapy unit and fetal heart monitors, to name a few.” said Penny Gilson, CEO of Prairie Mountain Health. “We thank all who have supported and continue to support donations to health care equipment at our sites and facilities.”
