On March 22, 2017, RCMP charged Carl Jessie Klyne, 23, of Swan River, MB and Tristan Storm Fisher, 20, of Selkirk, MB with Second Degree Murder in the death of a 50-year-old inmate at the Stony Mountain Correctional Institution (SMCI).

The victim had initially sustained severe injuries following an assault that occurred at the institution on February 20, 2017. He succumbed to those injuries on March 3, 2017. He succumbed to those injuries on March 3, 2017.

Both accused were inmates within the institution and were scheduled to appear in Provincial Court in Winnipeg on March 23, 2017.

The investigation is continuing.
