Tiger Varsity Girls Take First at Pizza Place Classic

The 2017 Pizza Place Invitational Boys & Girls Varsity Basketball Tournament was held in Swan River this past weekend on January 20 and 21, 2017 at the SVRSS.

The tournament is set up as a 4 team round robin with boys teams from Roblin, Dauphin and Westgate (Winnipeg) and girls teams Norquay, Dauphin and Westgate (Winnipeg) participating along with the host SVRSS Tigers.
 
On the boy’s side, the final game of the round robin schedule essentially provided the final for this tournament. Both the SVRSS Tigers and Dauphin Clippers went into that game with 2 – 0 records at 7:30 on Saturday night leaving the winner of that game taking first place in the tournament.


Unfortunately, for the home squad, things did not start off well and we struggled the entire game. In the end the Tigers were handed an 80 – 44 defeat. The Tigers started the tournament on Friday afternoon against the Roblin Raiders. Final score in that game was 60 – 24.


Game 2 of our tournament was played early Saturday afternoon against the Westgate Wings from Winnipeg. The Tigers came out with the win, final score of 77 – 63.

On the girl’s side, the final game of the round robin schedule also provided the final for this tournament. Both the SVRSS Tigers and Dauphin Clippers went into that game with 2 – 0 records at 5:50pm on Saturday night leaving the winner of that game taking first place in the tournament. The home team came out strong and held the lead for the entire game. In the end the Tigers were victorious with the final score 63 – 32. The Tigers started the tournament on Friday afternoon against the Norquay Nikes. Final score in that game was 61 – 22. Game 2 of our tournament was played late Saturday morning against the Westgate Wings from Winnipeg. The Tigers came out with the win, final score of 56 – 35.
  
Up next for both the Tiger Varsity Girls and Boys is the Neelin Invitational Tournament in Brandon on January 27 & 28, 2017.
