Over 40 people attended the very informative presentations held at the SVRSS School.

Dr. John Walker is a Professor in the Department of Clinical Health Psychology at University of Manitoba.  He has worked for many years in helping children, parents, and adults in overcoming parenting issues.

He is especially interested in empowering parents and encouraging family cooperation. He spoke of the impacts of increased screen (TV, computer and games) time and gave helpful suggestions for managing this screen time.

Resilience, self-regulation and steps to solving problems were also covered in his presentation and also in questions posed by attendees. Dr. Walker also shared that the Positive Parenting Program (Triple P) covers a lot of these issues and helps parents find tools to address and/or prevent these behaviours.

SVCTC has plans to host triple P parent programs in January 2017. If interested, please contact SVCTC Programs Coordinator-Eugenia Barker by email: svctcprograms@gmail.com.
