Prairie Mountain Health and the Parkland Family Medicine Residency Unit (PFMRU) congratulates Dr. Tyler Burnside of Swan River, Manitoba for being recognized amongst his peers with a national resident leadership award.
Dr. Burnside, Chief Resident for the Parkland Family Medicine Residency Unit for the 2015/2016 academic year, has been named as the recipient of the 2016 Family Medicine Resident Leadership Award. The award, supported by the Research and Education Foundation of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and by Scotiabank, recognizes the leadership abilities of outstanding senior family medicine residents from each of the 17 Canadian family medicine residency programs across Canada.
Dr. Burnside, originally from Swan River, began his training with the Parkland Unit ─which is based in Dauphin ─ on July 1st, 2014. “Over his two years of residency, Dr. Burnside was instrumental in acting as a leader to his fellow trainees. In his senior year, he was nominated to act in the capacity of Chief Resident and was a dedicated advocate for our program, ”stated Dr. Scott Kish, PFMRU Director. As a recipient of this award, Dr. Burnside is invited to attend the Family Medicine Forum (FMF) 2016 being held in Vancouver in November. He will also be invited to participate in the Medical Student and Family Medicine Resident Leadership Workshop, as well as other special events.
Dr. Burnside returned to Swan River to begin practice at the Swan Valley Primary Care Centre (July 2016) and his connection and experiences with Family Medicine Residency training will serve the program well in future years.
