Three round robin games were followed by a 3rd place vs 4th place game for the B-side Championship.

In the Colts first round robin game on Friday night, they faced off against the Hudson Bay Hunters. Discipline was an issue as the SR Colts who took 5 of the 7 minor penalties dished out. In addition, our young snipers had a tough time beating a solid netminder from HB. HB opened the scoring mid-way through the first period. It wasn’t until early in the second period when SR’s Alex Campbell got the Colts on even terms with a shorthanded goal. The Colts went ahead later in the period thanks to a goal from Kai Gorchynski, but HB tied the game with 10 seconds left in the 2nd period. Solid checking from the forward line of Carter Chartrand/Lane Lacasse/Trace Langan helped produce a scoreless 3rd period and a final score of 2-2.

Round Robin game 2 saw the SR Colts face-off against the Flin Flon McKeen’s Trucking squad. A solid defensive effort by the pairings of Maddix Eisner/Alex Campbell & Christian Hart/Dade Werbicki led the team to a 5-2 victory. After one period, SR Colts led by a score of 3-1 on period goals from: Gorchynski (unassisted), Lane Lacasse (assisted by Carter Chartrand), and Alex Campbell (unassisted). Neither team scored in the 2nd period thanks to the hard work of the line of Austin Eisner/Matt Zamzow/Ashton Cochrane. In the 3rd period, FF scored added one more goal while the Colts added two more. 3rd period goals for SR were scored by Lacasse (assisted by Campbell), and Campbell (assisted by Lacasse).

Round Robin game 3 was a game against Thompson Kings. This was a thrilling, well-played game which came down to the wire. SR Colts jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead with goals from: Gorchynski (assisted by Carson Chartrand) and Christian Hart (assisted by Maddix Eisner). The 2nd period saw a total of 5 goals scored and ended with a 4-3 lead for the Colts. 2nd period goals for SR were scored by: Gorchynski with 2 (assisted by Carson Chartrand). Early in the 3rd period, Thompson tied the game up at 4. Numerous saves by SR’s goalie Porter Atkinson kept the game tied at 4 for most of the 3rd period.

With only 2:20 left in the 3rd period, some nifty moves by Matt Zamzow helped him score what proved to be the game winning goal (assisted by Campbell). Lacasse secured the victory for the Colts by scoring with 39 seconds remaining in the final period (also assisted by Campbell). Final score 6-4 for the Colts.

A solid 2-0-1 round robin record secured a 4 place finish (of 16 teams) and a final game against the 3rd place finisher (Norway House North Stars) in the B-Final on Sunday afternoon. Several lead changes produced a thrilling game to watch. The forward line of Carson Chartrand/Kai Gorchynski/Lincoln Staniland produced all the offense for the Colts but it wasn’t quite enough as the Colts fell 4-3 to Norway House. Goals for SR were scored by Carson Chartrand with 2 and Gorchynski with one. Staniland added an assist. The Colts pushed hard in the last 5 minutes & had several opportunities to tie the game up but were unable to do so.

The players competed extremely hard all weekend plus they managed to have some fun between games. Well done, SR Colts.
