“You all have much to celebrate as you have accomplished so much in such a short period of time.” said Dr. Steven Feldgaier, Healthy Child MB Provincial Lead. “Congratulations and a big thank you to each of you for your contributions to this important community initiative!”
Swan Valley Communities That Care partners with a number of community initiatives in making Swan Valley a healthy Community for Children and Youth, including the following:
– Spooktober-Fest Haunted House
– SVCTC Toys 4 U Toy Drive and RCMP Toys for the North toy drive
– Flush Cancer campaign, Stop Sexual Exploitation of Children workshops, Youth Empowerment messages
In December 2013, Swan Valley School Division students completed SVCTC Youth Survey. The results were presented during a Community Planning meeting in January 2015 where SVCTC board & community members chose to address 2 Risk factors identified in Youth survey.
1. Family Conflict (students report high conflict between family members, ongoing or poorly resolved).
2. Rewards for Anti-Social Behaviour (students perceive that they accept or condone anti-social behaviour in relation to peer pressure)
The Guiding Good Choices Program was selected by SVCTC to address both of these risk factors. A five week workshop is being offered to parents free of charge, beginning in November 2015.
