More Than $1.1 Million for Road Infrastructure Will Keep Communities Connected, Improve Transportation Safety, Create Good Jobs: Minister Caldwell

OCHRE RIVER-Road improvements this year will benefit the Parkland region residents, tourist destinations, commuter and commercial traffic as the Manitoba government invests more than $1.1 million in partnership with municipalities to improve or replace municipal streets and roads, Municipal Government Minister Drew Caldwell announced here today.

“Municipal roadways are a vital component of our province’s transportation system. They are the important links between neighbourhoods and communities throughout the Parkland region and must be constantly maintained and improved to meet future needs of Manitobans,” said Minister Caldwell. “This announcement builds on our plan to keep the province moving forward and on the right track. These municipal road projects will ensure we have safe, efficient travel routes and roads that will keep communities connected, improve transportation safety and create good jobs.”

Funding is being provided to replace or repair more than 59 kilometres of municipal roads in the Parkland region, the minister noted.

The Municipal Road and Bridge Program, delivered in partnership with the Association of Manitoba Municipalities (AMM), is providing a total of $90 million over five years (2014-18) to repair and renew roads and bridges across the province.

“The AMM is pleased to be part of the selection process because these infrastructure investments will have a direct impact on the lives of citizens throughout the Parkland region,” said Doug Dobrowolski, president, AMM. “Also, it allows municipal governments to plan ahead and begin working on additional infrastructure projects.”
