Town of Swan River Minutes – April 15, 2014

The Council of the Town of Swan River met on Tuesday, April 15th, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. in the Town Council Chambers with Mayor Mckenzie presiding and Councilor’s, Delaurier, Bobick, Jacobson, Friesen, Whyte and Sakal present.


Delegations:

Tracy Burick regarding the need for Traffic Lights at the intersection of PTH10N and 3rd Street N.

Dan Soprovich, Lands Manager, WuskwiSipihk First Nation requesting permission to bring their solid waste to the Swan River Landfill.

Minutes:

1. RESOLVED that the Amended Agenda for the April 15th, 2014 regular meeting of Council be received.

2. RESOLVED that the minutes of the April 1st, 2014 regular meeting of Council be adopted as received.

4. RESOLVED that By-Law No. 4/2014 being a By-law of the Town of Swan River to prevent persons from loitering in or about public places in the Town of Swan River be read a first time.

5. RESOLVED that the Public Works Department purchase a TV 6070 Tractor Bi-directional from Mazzergroup for the amount of $188,242.83.

7. RESOLVED that Councillor Bobick be authorized to represent the Town of Swan River at the Thompson Trade Show being held May 1st to 4th, 2014.

8. RESOLVED that The Town of Swan River request Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation to conduct an assessment warrant regarding illumination on PTH 10N from the junction with Main Street North to Park Drive.

9. WHEREAS: Canadians have trusted the Canadian Cancer Society to lead the cancer fight for over 75 years; and,
WHEREAS: The Canadian Cancer Society is a national community-based organization of volunteers whose mission is the eradication of cancer and the enhancement of the quality of life of people living with cancer; and,
WHEREAS: The Canadian Cancer Society achieves its goals by:
Investing in life-saving research
Providing community-based support programs and services
Reducing incidence of cancer through prevention initiatives
Working for change in the health care system so it is more responsive to the needs of cancer patients; and,
WHEREAS: Volunteers and donors support these efforts, and funds are raised in communities across Canada, and,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT KNOWN THAT I, Glen McKenzie, Mayor of the Town of Swan River, do hereby proclaim the month of April , 2014 as Canadian Cancer Society’s Daffodil Month in the Town of Swan River and do commend its thoughtful observance to all citizens of our community.

15 RESOLVED that the Town of Swan River agree to pay Cliff Robertson $100 per trailer load of
tires that he loads at the Swan River Landfill site until December 31st, 2014.

16. RESOLVED that the Council of the Town of Swan River authorize Blaine Healey to hunt crows within the Town boundaries as a deterrent to the West Nile Virus and to be reimbursed as per Schedule “A” attached hereto.
