Yes, there are credit card, debit card, & phishing scams, and there is frauds that request:
– the sending of cash, or via other potentially untraceable means (ie, a money transfer agency)

A recent concern (locally) involves a Facebook lottery scam (which is a variant of an email lottery scam). A victim is often out money, and the likelihood of solving the crime is low.

“If you suspect that someone you know has fallen prey to a deceptive telemarketer, don’t criticize them for being naïve. Encourage that person to share their concerns with you about unsolicited calls or any new business or charitable dealings. Assure them that it is not rude to hang up on suspicious calls. Keep in mind that criminal telemarketers are relentless in hounding people . . . ” Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre: http://www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca/english/recognizeit_haveibeenscammed.html

* Fraud & Scam criminals are very adept at high pressure tactics and social engineering. They take advantage of people’s basic good nature & kindness.
