Minitonas & Area Residents Meet with Council & RCMP

A group of concerned citizens from Minitonas and the surrounding area met with Minitonas Town Council and Staff Sgt. Cliff McKay of the Swan River RCMP on Monday, February 10, 2014.



Following an increase in vandalism and theft throughout the past summer and fall, discussion focused on what can be done to prevent these types of crimes. It was acknowledged that a few habitual offenders can significantly influence crime trends. Methods to ensure the impact on individuals and the community is considered during sentencing and ways to access compensation for damages were also discussed.

Staff Sgt. McKay emphasized that good community leadership can have a positive influence on reducing crime. He commended the Town on maintaining a good relationship and close communication with the RCMP.

Residents were encouraged to look out for each other and to report any suspicious activity.
