Swan Valley Community Band started Sept. 1994, after our director, Julie Kooistra placed an ad in the Star & Times for those interested in playing again.

The beginning numbers were small, about 15, but has swelled to a steady number in the last 7-8 years.
On Wednesday, December 4, 2013 the Swan Valley Community Band held a Christmas Concert for the community at the SVRSS Cafeteria.
Our group totals 34, but with a number of incidents like illness, accidents, & job commitments with members, we were missing about 10 people.
Our Tarnished Brass Quintet had dwindled to a trio, but was determined to perform until illness sidelined one of our performers. And, sadly, our charter members are disappearing. One of them has decided to move a quarter of Canada away, a three day drive. We are now down to 4 who dusted off that instrument in 1994, and took the plunge.
Take Note of the brand new band shirts. In our 20th year, we decided we needed a change from what we started with–cream color. The shirts were purchased through Atkinson Sports Excellence with embroidery from Parkland Embroidery.
The color will have a double purpose when we perform for Canada Day again in July 2014, our 6th performance participating in the celebrations.
Everyone has a great time bonding in music, the universal language. We are not serious ALL the time, as there is always someone willing to make a joke.
Please consider joining our group. You may an instrument hiding in a closet just waiting for you.
We welcome anyone. We are always happy to see NEW faces, talent is secondary.
