RCMP Arrest Suspects in Birch River Break & Enters

On November 26, 2013 at about 12:30 am, Swan River RCMP were dispatched to a Break & Enter at the elementary school in Birch River, MB.

Entry had been gained, mischief occurred, as well as a number of items had been taken.


Arrests followed shortly thereafter with the suspects found in possession of stolen property in relation to the elementary school and other suspect items which were seized. It was learned a few short hours later, that a residential Break & Enter had also occurred in Birch River, MB with resultant charges.

Joseph James Kematch (19 year old male), of Wuskwi Sipihk Cree Nation, MB was charged with: Break & Enter (business), Break & Enter (residence), Theft under $5000.00 (x 2), Possession of Stolen Property (x 2), Mischief, and Breaching an Undertaking.

A youth accomplice (16 year old male), of Wuskwi Sipihk Cree Nation, MB was charged with: Break & Enter (business), Break & Enter (residence), Theft under $5000.00 (x 2), Possession of Stolen Property (x 2), Mischief, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Carry a Concealed Weapon, and Breach Probation (x 2).

This matter has been Remanded to Dauphin Provincial Court for November 28, 2013.
