Blue Sky Arena
Team Penning Practice
August 16, 2013 at 7 pm

Our arena is an outdoor facility on land owned by Stan and Sharon Foster of Benito, MB located about 1/4 mile west of the junction of Hwys 83 & 49.

Blue Sky Arena is an active team penning and trail riding club based out of Benito. Members come from around the valley and across the border, with regular attendance at our jackpots from team penners as far away as Steinbach, MB.

Weekends May to September we host practice pennings, alternately scheduled for Friday nights at 7 pm, or Sunday afternoons at 3 pm.

Our fall jackpot is scheduled for Sunday, September 8, 12 noon start.

What is team penning?

Team Cattle Penning is a timed team event in which a team of 3 riders have a short time to enter a herd of cattle and remove 3 like-numbered cows, putting them into a small pen at the opposite end of the arena. No “Trash” or wrong numbered cows can be brought across the line, which is roughly at the half way point of the length of the arena.

This is a fun event in which you will see a lot of families competing, because its a good entry level sport for beginner riders. There is a fit here for everyone, regardless of how new they or their horse are to the event. The family atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and most penners will tell you that this is what keeps them coming back just as much as the event itself.
