Our Guest Speaker from the RCMP gave a presentation on Shoplifting in our community.

The Chamber of Commerce is very concerned with shoplifting as it is said to cost retailers 2% of their annual sales. Shoplifting affects everyone as that extra cost that is passed on to honest shoppers. The Chamber of Commerce is looking into some solutions to deter such activity. They are going to research the possibility of sharing amongst its membership a list of known shoplifters that have been caught and/or banned from their premises. This is already being done in New Zealand. As well, there may be notifications at all Chamber member businesses that if caught shoplifting in one premise that it may result in being banned from ALL Chamber of Commerce member businesses.

The Swan Valley Chamber of Commerce is taking this issue seriously and will be increasing their vigilance in identifying, charging and banning known shoplifters.
