RCMP Investigate Fatal Single Vehicle Collision – UPDATED

** UPDATE**
The two deceased have been identified as a 21 year old woman and a 23 year old woman, both from the Swan River area. Their names will not be released. Police continue to investigate.

On October 24, 2011 at 11:30 p.m. Swan River RCMP as well as local Emergency Services were dispatched to the scene of a fatal single vehicle collision on Highway 10 near the junction of pr 279, north of Swan River.

Initial investigation indicates that a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am was north bound on highway 10 when it left the roadway, rolling over at least once.

There were 4 occupants in the vehicle, an adult male and 3 females.

Two females were pronounced deceased at the scene. Police are awaiting confirmation of their ages and identities.

A 25 year old woman from Swan River was transported to hospital with undetermined injuries.

The driver, a 50 year old man from Swan River, was transported to hospital with undetermined injuries. He was subsequently arrested for Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Death.

The accused has since been released from custody. He is facing charges of Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Death x 2 , and Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Bodily Harm. He scheduled to appear in Swan River Provincial Court on December 21, 2011.

An RCMP Traffic Collision Analyst attended to assist with the investigation. The highway was closed for several hours in order to conduct the investigation.

Alcohol and seat belt use are considered to be factors in this fatal collision.

No further information is available at this time. Police continue to investigate.
