Swan Valley Rec & Wellness Questions Answered

Swan Valley Recreation and Wellness Centre Media Release | The Swan Valley Recreation and Wellness Centre has reviewed the questionnaires received at the public meeting on March 21, 2011 and has compiled answers to some of the most frequently asked questions.

Regarding Phase 1, the Aquatic Centre, various questions were raised regarding whether or not the pool would meet the requirements for sanctioned swim meets. The Swan Valley Rec and Wellness Centre has obtained written confirmation from Swim Manitoba that the pool, as planned, is sanctioned to hold meets. The pool will include a 4 lane lap pool with an adjoining leisure pool. Confirmation that the pool will meet the requirements for scuba diving instruction has also been received.

Regarding Phase 2, the Field House, questions centered around what appeared to be omitted from the plan. In actuality, the plan for Phase 2 has not yet been finalized. The timing, scope and design features of Phase 2 will be influenced by the amount of funding available and which features would best serve the residents of the Swan River Valley. The Swan Valley Recreation and Wellness Centre has many options available to assist in determining the cost and benefit of each potential feature and has not yet decided which avenues will be pursued to obtain the most accurate and cost effective analysis.

Design Features that have been suggested and may be considered, depending on available funding and analysis of the cost, benefit and demand, include:

– Walking Track
– Field Sports (soccer, basketball, tennis, badminton, volleyball etc.)
– Fitness Centre (weights, fitness equipment, yoga, gymnastics etc.)
– Climbing Wall
– Commercial/Rental Offices
– Concert/Convention/Tradeshow Capabilities
– Meeting/Party Rooms

The sooner funding is in place, the sooner the detailed planning for Phase 2 can begin. The amount of funding raised at the time Phase 2 is planned will have a direct impact on the scope of the features included.
