ValleyBiz Story | With the drier, warmer weather this past week, seeding in the Valley saw some significant progress.
According to the May 24 Crop Report prepared by Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives:
Swan River has approximately 30% wheat seeded. Seeding in the Roblin area has progressed to 70% wheat and 45% canola acres being seeded. The remainder of the region is at 5%, as not all soils have been dry enough to seed.
Field operations began slowly, but activity increased rapidly during the week in most of the region; where tillage, pre-seed weed control, fertilizer application and seeding occurred in all areas. The activities were promoted by warm and windy weather earlier in the week, which extensively improved soil conditions.
