Submitted by: Micheline Carstairs | This week brings the start of the Swan Valley Fine Arts Festival, with the first festival being the Dance Festival. This festival will be held at the Swan River Friendship Centre for both the evenings of Thursday March 10th and Friday March 11th at 7:00 pm. There will also be some morning performances at Taylor School by the grade 3’s and the adjudicator will be doing a workshop with this group as well. The evening groups will be bringing a variety of dances from Folk Dances performed by both the Dolyna Dancers and the Benito Vesselli Dance Club. There will also be some Hip Hop, Ballet, Jazz, Tap and Modern Dance performed by the Swan School of Dance. This year, we also get the pleasure of seeing a past student of the Swan School of Dance who has continued her dance lessons through one of our past adjudicators, Linda Kearns, at Linda’s school of dance in Brandon, called “Dance Images”.
Our Adjudicator for dance this year is Talia Pura. She comes to us from Stonewall Manitoba. Talia has experience in adjudicating dance, but is also qualified in Speech Arts and has done so in previous years here in Swan River. Talia is also known for her talent in Aerial Dancing where she climbs silks hanging from the ceiling, and she will be performing at Ecole Swan River South School on Friday afternoon as part of the “Artists in the Schools” program brought in by their enrichment committee.
