Swan River RCMP Respond to Fatal Single-vehicle Rollover

On November 3, 2023, at 6:20 pm, officers from Swan River RCMP responded to a report of a single-vehicle rollover on Provincial Road 483, located approximately eight kilometres west of Sapotaweyak Cree Nation.

Officers arrived on scene and located a mini-van, with four occupants, which had entered the ditch and rolled.

One of the three passengers, a 33-year-old female from Sapotaweyak Cree Nation, was pronounced deceased on scene. A 22-year-old male, also from the community, and a 38-year-old female, from Swan River, were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation on scene led to the arrest of the driver, a 23-year-old female from Sapotaweyak Cree Nation, who was not physically injured, for Impaired Driving Causing Death. She was transported back to the Swan River Detachment where she provided samples of her breath for analysis that were found to be over three times the legal limit.

She was held in custody overnight and released earlier this morning with a court appearance scheduled for February 7, 2024, in Swan River.

Swan River RCMP, with support from the Criminal Collision Investigation Team and an RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist, continue to investigate.
