Swan River RCMP Respond to Disturbance at Hospital

RCMP Media Release |

On March 8, 2021, at 8:05 pm, Swan River RCMP responded to a call of a male who had entered the hospital and began to pull the fire alarms.

Officers attended and located the male in the lobby, where he was immediately placed under arrest for Mischief. He was handcuffed and removed from the hospital.

As officers attempted to place him into the police vehicle, his level of cooperation declined considerably as he refused to comply with the demands made by the officers and he resisted all efforts to be placed into the vehicle.

After a lengthy struggle, the officers were able to secure the suspect in the police vehicle.

The suspect was then transported to the Swan River Detachment and lodged in cells, where he continued his unruly and violent behaviour.

It was later learned that the suspect had entered one of the hospital rooms and gained access to the ceiling where damage occurred.

The 25-year-old male, from Brandon, remains in police custody, but is expected to be later released for court in Swan River on charges of Assault on a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, Mischief under $5,000 x 2 and Activating a False Fire Alarm.

Swan River RCMP continue to investigate.
