Stampeders Win 6-5 In Overtime to Even Series 1-1

The Swan Valley Stampeders evened the Turnbull Cup Series on home ice Sunday night [April 7, 2019], beating the Portage Terriers 6-5 in overtime.


Captain Brian Harris scored his second of the post season, swatting in a rebound at 6:18 on the power play. Swan River, MB native Josh Tripp picked up his 10th of the playoffs beating Ethan Peterson at 17:46 on the power play. John Jebamani let a blast go that found the back of the net 19 seconds later and the Stamps’ held a 3-0 lead after twenty minutes of play.

Portage pushed back in the second period as Joey Moffatt would score his fifth of the playoffs at 4:43. Orca Wiesblatt pulled the Terriers within one three minutes later beating Merek Pipes for his second of the post season. Alex Uryga picked up a loose puck wrapped it around the net and beat Peterson just over four minutes later. Chase Brakel would score on the power play late in the period and Swan Valley held a 4-3 lead after 40 minutes of play.

Portage would score twice in the first 10 minutes of the third period to take the lead for the first time in the game. Chase Brakel grabbed his second of the game at the 4:03 mark while Ty Barnstable scores just over five and a half minutes later. Bradly Goethals would tie the game at 13:38 of the third period, sending the game to over time.

Bradly Goethals would eventually be tonights overtime hero, letting a wrist shot go that beat Ethan Peterson on the power play at 1:31 into the overtime.

The Stampeders overtime win evened the series 1-1 and will now shift back to Portage for Game 3, Wednesday April 10th. Tickets are available online for anyone wishing to travel to Portage.
